Best Stocks for Swing Trading in 2026

The best stocks for swing trading in 2026 are Microsoft, Apple, Tesla, and Eli Lilly. As per our screen of 11 large caps on 30 October 2026, these four were the only ones to close above both their 50-day and 200-day moving averages, and each trades billions of dollars a day. Nvidia and JPMorgan are closest to joining them. The other five large caps closed below both averages, so they wait.

Key Takeaways

  • Top picks: Microsoft, Apple, Tesla, and Eli Lilly passed our trend, liquidity, and earnings-timing screen.
  • Watchlist: Nvidia and JPMorgan closed above their 200-day average but below their 50-day average.
  • Weakest trends: Alphabet, Amazon, Meta, Broadcom, and ASML closed below both averages.
  • Range: Tesla has the highest beta of the four picks, and Eli Lilly the lowest.
  • Freshness: Rerun the screen before each trade, because trends and earnings dates change within days.

The 4 Best Stocks for Swing Trading

Swing trading holds a position for several days to a few weeks. Each stock below passed all the tests, and they are ordered from the easiest setup for a first swing trade to the hardest.

1. Microsoft (MSFT)

Best for: A steady trend with a low-drama calendar.

Microsoft closed 19.2% above its 200-day average and 1.8% above its 50-day average, so the trend is intact without being stretched. Its beta of 1.10 means it moves close to the market, so it rarely turns sharply against a position. It reported on 28 October, which leaves the next few weeks free of earnings.

2. Apple (AAPL)

Best for: Liquidity and a clean setup after earnings.

Apple is the second most heavily traded of the four, at about $13.9 billion a day, and its beta of 1.07 is the lowest of the large tech names we screened. It was scheduled to report on 2 November, so check how the price reacted before you enter. Its position, 16.2% above the 200-day average, shows a trend that was well established going into the report.

3. Tesla (TSLA)

Best for: Traders who want range.

Tesla has the highest beta of the four at 1.92, which means larger daily moves and more room for a swing, and equally more risk when it turns. It closed 8.2% above its 50-day average but only 3.8% above its 200-day average, so the trend is younger than Microsoft’s or Apple’s. A smaller position is the sensible response to the extra range.

4. Eli Lilly (LLY)

Best for: The strongest trend, but with a caution.

Eli Lilly closed 29.9% above its 200-day average and has gained 74% over 52 weeks, the strongest trend in our group. Its RSI of almost 78 marks an overbought reading, and many swing traders wait for a pullback toward the 50-day average, near $1,197, before entering. Its beta of 0.45 is low, but beta measures how a stock shifts with the market. Eli Lilly can move on drug-trial news and earnings, so do not see the beta as low risk.

Stocks to Watch for Swing Trading

Two stocks are close to qualifying. Nvidia closed 0.1% above its 200-day average but 7.7% below its 50-day average, which points to a pullback. Its beta of 2.22 and $20.7 billion in daily dollar volume suit a swing trade, and it needs only a recovery above its 50-day average to qualify. The catch is the calendar: Nvidia reports on 17 November after the close, so a position opened this week would carry the report.

JPMorgan closed 4.4% above its 200-day average and 1.8% below its 50-day average. It has traded about $2.3 billion a day, the thinnest of the group, and its beta of 1.02 puts its range close to the market’s.

Horizontal bar chart of the closing price against the 50-day and 200-day averages for 11 stocks. Microsoft, Apple, Tesla, and Eli Lilly are above both averages. Nvidia and JPMorgan are above the 200-day but below the 50-day. Amazon, Meta, ASML, Broadcom, and Alphabet are below both

Amazon, Meta, ASML, Broadcom, and Alphabet closed below both averages, with Alphabet 17.9% under its 200-day average. A weak trend is not a reason to write a stock off, since a recovery above the 50-day average can mark the start of a swing. It is a reason to wait for the price to confirm. Broadcom reports on 10 December, which leaves a long clean window if it recovers.

How to Pick Stocks for Swing Trading: Our Four Tests

We screened 11 large caps across technology, pharmaceuticals, banking, and consumer names, using four tests that any trader can repeat. William O’Neil, founder of Investor’s Business Daily, put the discipline behind the whole exercise plainly: “Letting losses run is the most serious mistake made by most investors.”

  • Liquidity: Average daily dollar volume, meaning share volume times price, in the tens of millions or more. All 11 passed, from $2.3 billion to $20.7 billion.
  • Range: The 5-year beta as a rough guide to how much a stock moves. We used beta because we could not retrieve ATR, the Average True Range, from a source we could cite. Check ATR on your own chart.
  • Trend: A close above both the 50-day and 200-day moving averages.
  • Catalyst timing: No earnings report inside your planned holding period.

We took each input from StockAnalysis.com’s statistics pages and calculated every ratio ourselves. To build your own list, start with a stock screener for swing trading that filters by market cap and volume. Then apply the trend test, using the periods from our guide to the moving averages for swing trading, and check the earnings date of each stock that survives.

Size Every Swing Trade Before You Enter

Position size equals the amount you will risk divided by the distance to your stop. On a $10,000 account risking 1%, or $100, a purchase of Apple at $344.63 with a stop $10 below allows 10 shares, a position of about $3,446. A wider stop means fewer shares, which is why Tesla deserves a smaller position than Microsoft. Our guide to position size in trading covers the method.

One rule changed this year. FINRA’s new intraday margin standards took effect on 4 June 2026 and replace the pattern day trader rules. Swing trades held overnight were not day trades, but ask your broker how it applies the new margin framework to your account.

Best Stocks for Swing Trading: The Bottom Line

Microsoft, Apple, Tesla, and Eli Lilly are the best stocks for swing trading in our screen, dated 30 October 2026. Nvidia is the one to watch ahead of its 17 November report. Choose Microsoft or Apple for a calmer trade, Tesla for more range, and Eli Lilly for the strongest trend once it pulls back. Prices and earnings dates change within days, so rerun the screen on the day you trade.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the best stocks for swing trading in 2026?

As per our 30 October 2026 screen of 11 large caps, the best stocks for swing trading are Microsoft, Apple, Tesla, and Eli Lilly. Each closed above its 50-day and 200-day moving averages and trades billions of dollars a day. Nvidia and JPMorgan are on the watchlist.

What are the best stocks to swing trade right now?

The list above is current as of the 30 October 2026 close. Trends and earnings dates change quickly, so rerun the four tests on the day you trade before relying on any list, including this one.

How do I pick stocks for swing trading?

Filter for liquidity first, then require a close above the 50-day and 200-day moving averages, then check that no earnings report falls inside your holding period. Confirm the setup on the daily chart.

Which stocks are best for swing trading for beginners?

Stocks with lower betas and steady trends, such as Microsoft and Apple in this screen, give a beginner more time to react. Tesla and Nvidia move more and need smaller positions.

How long does a swing trade last?

It usually lasts from several days to a few weeks, long enough to capture one leg of a move.

Does the end of the $25,000 day trading minimum matter to swing traders?

Not much, because swing trades held overnight were not day trades. But your broker still sets its own margin rules, so confirm them before you trade.
